Members of the explorer post receive top firearms training.  Each explorer must first attend the Madison Heights Police Department’s Firearm Safety Course and pass a test before being able to participate on the range.

Once passing the class, members are able to shoot handgun and shot guns.  The training is received on the Madison Heights Police Department’s range and is generally given by Police Reserve Officer and Range Master Jim Helvey.

The explorers have shot .357 and 40 Caliber handguns on the range.  The explorer’s have competed at several firarms matches including the Thomas Baldus Shooting Match held at the Michigan State Police Training Academy in Lansing, MI and the National Competition Match held at various locations throughout the nation.
